When can you take part in MelaColgo and how does it work?

The famous Val di Non apples ripen at the end of summer and the harvest takes place around September and October, depending on the variety of apple. The first apples to be harvested are called Gala apples and in the lower part of the valley, with this variety, one starts as early as the end of August. The last ones, on the other hand, are the Fuji apples, which are harvested around mid-October.

The harvesting period in Val di Non is really hectic: you will find tractors laden with caissons, red baskets, snacks in the meadows, pickers arriving from far and wide, sorting the apples and delivering them to the storehouses.

The farmers of the Agritur Ambasciatori di Melinda (Melinda Ambassador Farms) are available to explain the important rules for a perfect harvest: just a few minutes of practice, an explanation of the right harvesting technique and you too will be ready to become a picker! You will immediately bite into an apple and feel the unmistakable crunch under your teeth. With the other apples you will fill your little box and take the apples home with you. Placed in a cool, dark place, they will keep for several days and on the day you bite into them, or let your friends taste them, you can recount how you were the one who picked them!
